Consumers have increasingly more ways to interact with content, and as the technology behind marketing gets more complex, the future of creative work is becoming increasingly collaborative. Campaigns that span multiple platforms require communicators to tap resources with deep expertise in narrow channels. Writers, photographers, artists, designers and media developers all play a role in crafting each touch point. With so many creative contributors, it is vital that the core story stays true and consistent to the brand mission.

A folded paper crane symbolizes the possibilities of the future and the theme of the event as “The Story Unfolds”.

Our Proposal includes:

• A folded invitation that includes a code that launches an augmented reality (AR) component to the message

• An AR or VR experience at the event

• An event structure, possibly stage display or photo backdrop

• Custom social sharing icons and tools for event social campaign

Behind the Scenes | Process

The Illustrate My Design (IMD) team was the head technical lead on and provided guidance on how to incorporate AR and VR technology into a typical awards ceremony event. We recommended that AR would be a great component to enhance the print invitation, while VR was better suited for the live event.

IMD created a 3D animated representation of the concept crane, and with AR integrated it into the event invitation itself. 3D Modeling, Animation, and AR Programming were required to make this a reality. This promoted attendee engagement early on, upon receiving the invitation! The AR component itself not only provided a fun experience with the invitation, but also a chance to promote the event on social media by posting the images that were generated of the AR. For the actual event, IMD developed a VR game as an interactive activity for attendees at the awards ceremony.

The purpose of the game is to find three different glowing spheres and put them into a central fountain, symbolizing the collaborative efforts of the multi-faceted teams of the future. Once the three spheres are collected, the origami crane emerges out of the fountain and flies into the sky for a grand finale. The audience was thrilled to try out the VR headset and event-specific game. Many had never tried VR before. There was audience engagement, people photographing others as they tried VR and a lot of excitement around this addition to the event.
